My fave songs by Black LGBTQ+ Artists

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

You’ve seen the video of them that took social media by storm. They’re sitting and singing acapella (beautifully, I might add) “I will be one of the greatest. That is a vow; that is a promise.” It easily got stuck in everyone’s head, and needs to be in this lineup simply because I feel confident while listening to their soothing vocals. Great lyrics, great voice, easy 10/10 (Spotify image)

So, this is a new song by grouptherapy. (grouptherapydot) (easily one of the best collectives I’ve found in a while) &TJOnline called “Sweet.” It makes the spot because I’ve heard his voice on their other songs and I’ve dug his verses, but I just really dig the beat on “Sweet” (plus I feel bad for the “boo thang” that ghosted him when he saw TJOnline was next up :/. I felt that) mixed in with his cool attitude. I like songs that make you know the artist was feelin’ themselves in the booth. I, too, felt like the shit.

TjOnline took to Instagram to explain what it means to him & when he wrote it. I hope you all read what he wrote.

Dréya Mac

Shouts out to Tiktok because it’s letting bangers and amazing artists get more love. I do my lil dancey dance to “Own Brand (Baddie).” She just came out with easy-to-dance-to “Ain’t No Way” in April…and I can’t decide if it’s winning over “Take My Lovin’ (Lagoon Session). We’ll give it to “Take My Lovin’” because it’s something about her soft yet slightly quick paced sound over the piano that makes me wanna keep it on repeat while chillin.

Let’s top it off with another artist I got into thanks to Tiktok. Their song “Sensitive” was everywhere on my FYP what…one ye—two…two years ago. And since then, I’ve gone down a Dreamer rabbit hole (I haven’t been sleep–ok sorry). Dreamer reps Chicago, so maybe I’m a little biased when I say he has no flops. Nah. It’s just the truth. “Bad Ting” wins because I feel like I’m dancing with a woman when I hear it and then I break away from her…I’m gonna stop the scene there. It’s very “meant for a movie scene”-esque. They’ve also been dropping the coolest visuals and seem pretty hype in most songs.

(Also, they made a song with MAVI called “I Don’t Wanna Go” and I probably, maybe, squealed when I saw their names together).
